Davis Allen Cripe was a healthy 16-year-old high school student in South Carolina.
A few weeks ago, Cripe collapsed during school and died. Earlier this week the Coroner ruled that the boy had died from “caffeine-induced cardiac event causing a probable arrhythmia,” as reported in BuzzFeed News.
The autopsy did not reveal any underlying medical problems, nor had Cripe used any alcohol or drugs.
Davis, on this particular day within the two hours prior to his death, had consumed a large diet Mountain Dew, a cafe latte from McDonald’s, and also some type of energy drink.
It was so much caffeine at the time of his death that it caused arrhythmia, referring to a condition marked by an irregular heartbeat.
