Steve Stephens shot and killed himself today after a brief car chase near Erie, Pennsylvania, police have reported.
The suicidal killer was the subject of a nationwide manhunt, after murdering elderly Ohio man Robert Godwin in cold blood out of outrage at a lost girlfriend.
Stephens broadcast the shooting on Facebook Live, though the footage is believed to have been pre-recorded.
The 37 year-old fugitive claimed to have shot 14 other people in the same day, but police have found no evidence of those murders.
Pennsylvania state police tweeted today, “Steve Stephens was spotted this morning by PSP members in Erie County. After a brief pursuit, Stephens shot and killed himself.”
Godwin is believed to have no connection to the woman Stephens mentions as his motivation for killing. In an interview, Stephens’ mother said he suffered from a gambling problem.
