You might be shocked, but probably not surprised, to learn that San Francisco is planning on opening a new tax-funded office to represent illegal immigrants faced with deportation.
Local tax dollars will be spent to defend people who chose to break the law the minute they illegally crossed America’s borders.
The Daily Caller reports that the city expects to handle about 150 cases a year.
To some, it may seem odd that public money is being spent to defend non-citizens against the actions of the federal government, but not to officials in San Francisco.
Mass deportation is against our core values as Americans and San Franciscans,” Adachi said. “Due process still means something in this country, and we are not going to let the federal government ship off our friends and neighbors without a fight.
— Public Defender Jeff Adachi
An estimated 44,000 illegal immigrants are living in the San Francisco area. Many of them don’t pay taxes while using public services that legal immigrants and citizens must pay for.
