Terrorist Omar Khadr killed US soldier, Christopher Speer, with a grenade. He was captured, interrogated, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to prison. In 2012, he was transferred to a Canadian prison and proceeded to sue the Canadian government for “not protecting him from the US”. He has just been awarded $10,000,000 ($8 million USD).
The “mistreatment” he received was of being sleep deprived. He still has not denied killing Speer and is clearly guilty of fighting with Al Qaeda. So why are the Canadians giving him a fortune? This is the Canadian people’s money, not the government’s. It should be their choice as to whether or not a multi-million dollar payout is given to someone guilty of both being a terrorist and committing murder.
This new trend in classifying terrorists as “victims” will soon be taking hold in the US. It needs to be stopped now before we end up bankrupt paying for people to murder Americans.
As reported in Young Conservatives:
A former Guantanamo Bay prisoner who killed a U.S. soldier will receive millions of dollars and an apology from the Canadian government, officials announced Tuesday.
Omar Khadr will receive $10.5 million Canadian ($8 million American) after the government struck a deal with Khadr’s lawyers in June, the Associated Press reported.
When Khadr was 15, he murdered Speer by throwing a grenade at him during a firefight at a suspected al-Qaeda compound.
He was captured and ultimately sent to Guantanamo Bay where he was charged with war crimes. He pled guilty to the murder in 2010 and received an eight year sentence. In 2012, he was transferred to Canada to serve the remainder of his sentence.
