The U.S. appears to be edging ever closer to a dramatic showdown with the crazed leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un.
North Korea continues to test missiles and threaten the U.S. with a nuclear strike. The U.S. has already wasted years in trying to talk to this despot, and the military option may be the only one left on the table.
Once the decision for military action has been made the U.S. would have to decide whether to opt for the full-scale destruction of North Korea’s nuclear facilities and military forces or target only the nuclear facilities.
According to a thoughtful article that appeared in Business Insider, many feel that the President would first try a targeted surgical strike to wipe all most of the nuclear forces in the country.
The U.S. would use stealth aircraft like the F-22 and B-2 bomber and position Naval forces, including submarines off the Korean coast. Hundreds of cruise missiles would be launched from ships while the bombers dropped bombs on fixed and underground targets.
It would be a risky move, but time appears to be running out on any realistic alternative.
