In Wednesday’s White House press briefing, Sean Spicer said that the administration was “caught off guard” by House Intelligence Committee chairman Devin Nunes’ findings that the Trump transition team may have been subject to illegal surveillance activities in 2016 and 2017.
But when liberal reporters pressed to confirm whether Nunes had met with the President after rushing to the White House earlier today, Spicer downplayed the notion while avoiding a direct denial.
Spicer went so far as to say “nobody briefed the White House” before the story broke.
Meanwhile, mainstream reporters were in full freak-out mode, immediately trying to imply that Nunes, Trump, Spicer and others were engaged in a dog and pony show of “convenient” timing and dramatic rumors.
