A Birmingham, Alabama woman bravely escaped captivity in the trunk of a car and ran to safety in a nearby convenience store and gas station, in an incident captured on video Tuesday night.
Authorities say that the 25 year-old victim was kidnapped outside her apartment in the Avondale neighborhood, and used her credit cards to withdraw money at locations around the city.
Her run to escape could be seen on a surveillance lens about 6 miles from where she was captured. Watch the video below.
The owner of the gas station told NBC News that the kidnapper “got mad” after failing to properly use an ATM, then returned to the car. But not before the victim could flee to safety. “I saw the trunk popped up, a woman ran inside,” Yosef Al-Sabah, 48, told investigators.
The perpetrator is still at large.
