Fox News is reporting that Mexico is considering charging a fee for American entering Mexico.
Mexico is upset by the continuing calls from U.S. President Donald J. Trump to install a border wall on the U.S. – Mexican border and the remarks by Mexican Foreign Secretary Luis Videgaray were seen as a potential retaliation against the wall and the President’s demand that Mexico helps pay for the wall.
There are more than eleven million illegal immigrants living in the U.S., the majority of whom have crossed into America via the Mexican border.
Videgaray reiterated that Mexico would not “pay a cent” towards the wall and threaten that Mexico would reduce security cooperation with the U.S.
If the negotiation on other themes — immigration, the border, trade — isn’t satisfactory to Mexico’s interests, we will have to review our existing cooperation. This would be especially in the security areas … and that involves the national immigration agency, the federal police and of course, the armed forces.
— Luis Videgaray – Mexican Foreign Secretary
The President appears committed to carrying through with his plans to build a wall and is unlikely to be concerned by the statement made by Mr. Videgarary.
