It looks like Trump has just about had enough of House Republicans not falling in line. He has threatened the House Freedom Caucus with fighting against them in 2018 saying that they had “better get in line” and “fast”. It is an unprecedented move for a President to make threats against members of his own party, but after their failure to support the Obamacare repeal last week, Trump isn’t going to take their betrayals any more.
According to the Daily Caller:
“The Freedom Caucus will hurt the entire Republican agenda if they don’t get on the team, and fast,” Trump tweeted. “We must fight them, and Dems, in 2018.”
“Mark, I’m gonna come after you,” Trump said in the meeting, before going on to say, “I honestly think that many of you will lose your seats in 2018 if you don’t get this done.”
Whilst this move may be popular with many in the party, it is the voters who are going to have to decide if they can risk withholding their votes in 2018. If Trump can get likeminded people into the Houses, then his Presidency will have no major obstacles. If he fails, however…
