Twitter has reportedly suspended over 630,000 accounts – a little over half a million – over the grounds that those accounts seem to belong to bots, extremists, ‘internet bullies’, or what they consider to be hateful racist rhetoric.
This has been in the works since 2015, when they company decided to crack down on “violent extremism”. Many of those with suspended accounts have complained Twitter banned them for their political views, slanting the social media platform to leftist values.
In the last 6 months of 2016, Twitter shut down 376,890 accounts alone.
The company also announced it will delve further into these tweets and begin taking lawsuit actions against certain bloggers, journalists, and media outlets. Soon they will be able to remove content that they consider inappropriate.
