Illegal ‘asylum seekers’ are now crossing the border from New York into Canada in record numbers. They’re heading for Toronto, a self-styled ‘sanctuary city,’ but many are also flooding to Ontario border towns.
Many are making use of a Canadian legal loophole which means they are not subject to deportation if the cross at an unofficial border crossing, rather than at an official border point.
Claiming to be seeking asylum from Donald Trump’s government, the wave began as a result of Trump’s temporary travel freeze. This is regardless of their exemption from the policy, due to already being located inside the U.S. Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau’s tweet welcoming such ‘refugees’ further encouraged the surge.

Refugees are now crossing at major centers like Windsor and Niagara Falls, Ontario and claiming to be refugees from the United States.
Conservative Party public safety critic and Ontario Member of Parliament Tony Clement told The Daily Caller that “it is time for this Liberal government to apply the law.” Clement added that it is “ridiculous” to think of refugees coming from the United States.
Toronto has been a sanctuary city since 2013, and numbers of have increased by 80% over the last year. The city is for a new influx, with Montreal set to join them, having just announced their status as a ‘sanctuary city’ last week.
