Good government only works when there is a strong opposition. Without proper debate and challenge, governments can become tyrannical. Senator Chris Murphy may be one of the last best hopes for a sensible Democrat party because he has realized that the Democrats have not been doing their jobs.
During his interview, he said that the Democrats had been spending all their time trying to push the Russia story and spending no time talking about jobs or economics. He still managed to make the odd jibe at President Trump, but he has correctly identified why the Dems are, at present, completely unelectable.
Until they get back to wages, communities and coming up with policies that people want to vote for, they will remain in the political wilderness. It’s about time the rest of the Dems realized this, too.
As reported in Young Cons:
“The fact that we have spent so much time talking about Russia has been a distraction from what should be the clear contrast between Democrats and the Trump agenda, which is on economics,” Murphy said Wednesday. He said Democrats would have more success if they drew contrasts on economics between Republicans and Democrats.
He said that voters he talks to are “talking about the same things, wages, they’re talking about education, they’re talking about public safety.”
“So I think Democrats have to be hyper focused on an economic contrast and I think this president is handing it to us, using this administration and presidency to enrich himself and his millionaire friends,” he added.
