It may soon be illegal to speak or write a mistaken gender in Canada. And one of the only dissenting voices has found himself attacked and silenced in public.
University of Toronto professor Jordan Peterson has gained attention this year for his stand against the criminalization of “offensive speech” on the basis of gender identity. The law, Bill C-16, stipulates that Canadians must use the preferred pronouns of non-binary-gendered people, or be charged with a criminal offense.
Peterson has produced a detailed series of academic lectures on YouTube explaining the philosophical and ethical backing for his position. But at a recent talk at McMaster University, a radical group of liberals arrived to terrorize the professor and his audience, throwing things and shouting.
The speaker finally fled the planned venue but was able to speak outside, thanks to a helpful gang of students who formed a protective shield. Click below for video of the incident and the makeshift talk.
