A Texas high school is caught in the middle of a hazing scandal. Several of its students were arrested for sexually assaulting male victims using broom sticks, steel pipes and baseball bats.
Monday, two unidentified adult students were arrested by police. My San Antonio reports, that the La Vernia High School students are being held at the Wilson County jail.
Last week, the police rounded seven other students, who are all juveniles. All seven have been released.
According to authorities, the alleged hazing happened during the 2015-2016 and the 2016-2017 school years, on the school’s campus. Cops also have reasons to believe that the sexually charged hazing also happened during the 2014-2015 school year.
My San Antonio reports that the hazing involved players on the baseball, basketball and football teams.
So far, police have identified ten alleged victims — all male — but expect more to come forward. Authorities also said they expect to make more arrests as they further investigate.
One parent, who did not want to be identified, told Fox San Antonio that her son was held down in the locker room at the school and sexually assaulted with a number of items.
“There was a lookout at the door watching for coaches not to come,” the mother said. “They hold them down and stick various items up their rectum … including coke bottles, deodorant bottles, steel pipes, baseball bats and broom sticks.”
The mother said the incident made her son no longer want to attend football practice.
Jose Moreno, the La Vernia Independent School District superintendent, released a statement on Facebook saying the hazing “crushed” the community’s spirit.
“I ask that we unite and focus on recovering through this challenging time together, he said. “Our high school administration and athletic directors are implementing additional protocols to provide students a clear path of communication to report a concern, receive counseling, and know that their voices will be heard while maintaining their privacy.”
The La Vernia Police Department told the Daily News they are continuing to investigate the hazing, and will release more information once it becomes available.
