A 13 year-old boy has died of a heroin overdose in Dayton, Ohio after finding and consuming his father’s stash of the drug.
Even more tragic, police arrested the Dad in December, but the man was allowed to stay out of prison and even retain possession of the deadly drugs that have now killed his son.
40 year-old Robert Wylie and his co-worker took his son Nathan Wylie to a Dayton fire station after the boy fell unconscious in a garage on March 28. The co-worker told medics that Wylie was on drugs and that Nathan had gotten a hold of “his stuff,” according to a police report. Medics treated Nathan for an overdose, but it was too late. The boy died just a few days later.
Municipal court records for Wylie show that the man had been charged with multiple misdemeanors for possessing hard street drugs, dating back to 1998. In December, the man and his girlfriend were caught with drug paraphernalia and what appeared to be crack cocaine, but were allowed probation.
Law enforcement officials allowed Nathan to stay with Robert and his girlfriend even after the abuse was discovered.
