Amanda Hawkins, 19, of Kerrville, Texas, is facing two counts of endangering children, after she left her two toddler daughters in a hot car for hours, giving them injuries that caused their deaths a day later.
Friend’s of Hawkins revealed that the teen mom was often neglectful of the children. This was not the first time they had been left in a car while the mother hung out with other friends.
Each toddler’s respective father has a prison record, both for selling drugs.
Witnesses also say they have seen Hawkins be physically abusive towards the children, hitting and slapping them, while she would take them with her to be with friends.
The Daily Mail reports:
DailyMail.com can disclose that their deaths came after long-running concerns for their welfare, with Hawkins’ estranged husband, who was Brynn’s father, having drug charges, while she was seen physically attacking her daughters.
The fathers of both girls have drugs arrests and one is a convicted meth dealer.
Addyson’s father is Austin Overgard, who is currently in a prison rehab facility is a convicted meth dealer who is 21.
Brynn’s father Isaac Hawkins – to whom Amanda was married for a year and eight months before allegedly cheating on him with a 16-year-old – has been arrested on drug charges and now lives in a shabby trailer. He is 19.
Former friend Sadie Harwood, 20, of Kerrville, told DailyMail.com that Hawkins had previously left her girls alone in the car while she attended parties and mixed with a crowd that dabbled in drugs.
She said: ‘I’m not totally surprised that something like this has happened. People have been worried about those kids for a while and she has left them in the car before.’
Harwood, who is now sober and hopes to become an art therapy teacher, added: ‘She would ignore them while we were inside doing things [drugs].
‘I never saw her take anything myself but she would always be at the houses when I went to buy stuff. It was always Xanax, meth and weed.’
Close friend Sierra Talley, 20, of New Braunfel, Texas, told DailyMail.com that the 19-year-old had initially seemed to be a good mother but would ‘get physical’ with the girls if they cried.
She said: ‘If the youngest ever did something wrong, and also the oldest, she would get physical.’
