Eight non-profit groups have taken money from taxpayers to help illegal immigrants. More than $291 million between 2012 and 2016 was used by the organizations to provide social services and legal advocacy to the immigrants. 94 percent of the money came from the federal government –that is, nearly $274 million.
These eight groups represent only a tiny fraction of the charity groups who provide support to illegal aliens. The Daily Caller reports:
“At least 684 nonprofits nationwide provide some form of legal aid to immigrants,” a 2013 Urban Institute study said. More than half of these had budgets bigger than $1 million, but a “more detailed breakdown is necessary to reveal how much support comes from … government agencies.”
The eight groups include non-profits such as Americans For Immigrant Justice, which was given almost $8 million in government grants from 2012 to 2014.
The largest beneficiary was the Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS), which received $255 million.
The National Council of La Raza (NCLR) received the second-most public funding, given $17 million, between 2013 and 2015.The organization publicly supported Hilary Clinton during the recent presidential election.
According to the Daily Caller,
La Raza’s president and CEO Janet Murguia is an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement strategies, comparing his promise to deport illegal immigrants to both the African slave trade and the predominantly Japanese internment camps established in the U.S. following Japan’s surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941.
The Daily Caller News Foundation Investigative Group uncovered this information by investigating federal spending data and tax documents, however they claim that even this analysis fall short of the true extent of the situation.
