With 42 percent of precincts reporting in Montana, vote counting shows a surprisingly close call in the state’s Special Election for the House of Representatives.
The Republican, Greg Gianforte, leads Democrat Rob Quist 48.7 to 45.6 with almost half the vote counted.
Montana was thrown into controversy this week as Gianforte was entrapped into a caught-on-audio physical confrontation with a liberal activist from The Guardian.
The activist, Ben Jacobs, confronted and grabbed Gianforte on the arm while posing as a “news reporter.”
The candidate responded by reportedly body-slamming Jacobs.
Though the media hoped it would lead to a loss for Gianforte, many Montana Republicans cheered the news.
