Customs officers in Amsterdam discovered a man trying to board a flight had dozens of poisonous snakes in his luggage.
The Guardian reports that the Russian man was taking a flight from Brazil to Russia and it was during a stopover in Amsterdam that the snakes were discovered.
In addition to finding 26 poisonous lancehead snakes, customs officials found 10 poisonous frogs, 33 cockroaches, and lizards.
Although the reptiles were not on the endangered species list the mode of transport did violate Dutch animal welfare laws.
There is no word yet on what charges if any, the man will face.
Meanwhile, the reptiles are in the custody of the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA). The NVWA will maintain control of the reptiles until authorities decide what to do with them.
