Amy Peterson, a single mom in Atlanta, was barred from attending a highly-anticipated father-daughter school dance. The mother of a 6-year-old daughter, Gracie, wanted to do everything she could to ensure her daughter is not left out.
She donned mascara for a beard and dressed up like a dad, wearing clothes larger than her size and even using cologne to top off the look. Peterson told local news: “I was trying to comply with the rules.”
She knew if she’d showed up as the girl’s mom, she wouldn’t have been let in. When they were set to leave for the dance, the school’s principle gave them a call.
“She caught rumor that her (Gracie’s) mother was bringing her and she forbid us to come,” Peterson said, “and if we showed up we would be turned away”. Peterson called the school’s bluff, but they held firm to their promise not to let them enter.
School officials say they apologized to Peterson and refunded her the cost of tickets to the dance, but Peterson says she has not received either. Peterson also says she will now be homeschooling her daughter.
