A Utah couple charged with murdering their “extremely malnourished” 3-year-old daughter taunted her with food and used makeup to cover up her many injuries, prosecutors told the court.
Police say Angelina Costello was found dead in her home after the parents called to report the child stopped breathing.
Police say she was covered in burns, bruises, and cuts.
According to the charging documents obtained by KFOR, the girl’s face was “sunken in, void of definition from muscle or fat.”
The parents, Brenda Emile, 22, and Miller Costello, 25, are charged with aggravated murder and could face the death penalty.
Emile admitted to police that she used makeup to cover up the injuries “so they didn’t look as bad.”
Police also found phone videos showing the girl’s condition deteriorating over 18 months before she died.

The 25-year-old father admitted he knew Angelina needed medical attention, but did not take her to the doctor.
The couple is being held without bail, according to KFOR. Prosecutors said they had tens of thousands of dollars in cash when they were arrested, and have ties in several states.
Two other children were removed from the house and placed in state care.
