A white man with pure racism in his heart traveled from Baltimore to New York city for the sole purpose of killing black men. Thursday, he was charged with murder as a hate crime.
The suspect is 28-year-old James Harris Jackson from Baltimore, Maryland. Wednesday, he surrendered to the NYPD, telling him that he is a white supremacist. Jackson learned of his hate crime charges Thursday in a Manhattan court.
Criminal documents revealed that the man, who admits to being a member of a known hate group, traveled to NYC to kill African Americans. He says the black stranger he stabbed to death in Times Square with an 18-inch sword, was just practice to kill more black men.
Prosecutors said the unsuspecting victim never had a chance when Jackson descended on him in the darkness.
“This defendant, brandishing a sword in cold blood, murdered a 66-year-old man who was bent over collecting bottles from the garbage,” said Assistant District Attorney Joan Illuzzi.
“The man was completely unarmed,” she continued. “The attack came from behind.”
After the “vicious and cold-blooded” killing, Jackson simply walked away from the dying black man, the prosecutor said. Jackson was also charged with criminal possession of the weapon that he used to repeatedly.
A criminal complaint charged that Jackson was captured on a security video about two minutes after the stabbing carrying “a large implement in his hand.”
The DA’s office was considering an upgrade of the charges to first-degree murder, with Illuzzi suggesting the slaying was “an act most likely of terrorism.”
