It’s hardly a surprise that Hillary Clinton’s lies caused many voters to mistrust her.
What is interesting, however, is a new study reported by CNN that pinpoints the email scandal as the key reason she lost the election.
According to the story, a group of pollsters recently examined the 2016 election and determined that in the voters’ minds, the biggest story of the campaign was Clinton’s emails and her lies about them.
As you can see, “email” drowns out every other term mentioned about Clinton. It was, without question, the dominant narrative of the election for her — at least in the five months that this paper documents. And, according to the study, the mentions of email correlate directly to negative views of Clinton.
The study also showed a renewed spike in interest in her emails after ex-FBI Director James Comey revealed, just two weeks before the election, that he was reopening the investigation into Clinton’s emails.
Whenever voters thought of Hillary Clinton during the last few weeks of the campaign, they associated her name with her emails, which most viewed as an example of why America should not trust Clinton.
