Rockville, Maryland, is considering adding itself to the list of Sanctuary Cities. The city is also currently in the midst of a scandal with rape allegations made against two immigrant teenagers.
The Daily Caller Reports:
Although Rockville police have had a long-standing policy neither to question suspected illegals about their immigration status, or to cooperate with federal immigration authorities, the city is now considering the process of formalizing that informal standard by becoming a sanctuary city.
Rockville City Councilmember Julie Palakovich Carr introduced an ordinance in early March in response to President Donald Trump’s pledge to beat back illegal immigration.
Since the ordinance was introduced, the plans have been called into question due to an alleged sexual assault by immigrant high school students against a 14-year-old girl. The girl told police that the two boys pushed her into the boys’ bathrooms at Rockville High School before taking turns raping her in a stall.
Henry E. Sanchez from Guatemala, and Jose O. Montano, from El Salvador, were charged with the crimes of first-degree rape and first-degree sexual offense. The boys, who were 17 and 18 years old respectively were students in the 9th grade, despite the age difference with their classmates.
Both suspects have been deemed a flight risk, and Sanchez already has an “alien removal” case pending against him. They will be held without bail until their next court date.
The case is sure to inflame the debate on whether Rockville will become America’s next Sanctuary City.
