As reported by several news outlets, the Trump Administration is finally set to revoke a part of Obamacare which has attempted to force nuns, namely Little Sisters of the Poor, to give out birth control pills and condoms.
Penny Nance, a representative for LSP, has written that not only was the policy unconstitutional, as a violation of religious liberty, but it was also unnecessary as women do not generally turn to a Catholic charity expecting to be handed contraceptives.
Congress is working to repeal ObamaCare, but the bill passed by the House earlier this month wouldn’t impact the the situation.
Therefore, Trump is stepping in to fulfill a campaign promise to re-establish religious liberty for the nuns.
VP Mike Pence has also spoken out against the ObamaCare provision.
Trump has now signed an executive order instructing HHS and other departments to “address conscience-based objections” to the Obamacare mandate, freeing the Sisters to operate by their own traditions.
