President Donald Trump touched on several key topics in an exclusive interview with Tucker Carlson, which aired Wednesday night on Fox News. “The country is doing very well,” he offered. “Optimism is up.”
But of course, all anyone wants to talk about is Trump’s 2005 tax return, exposed by Rachel Maddow on Tuesday night in what has been called a “self-defeating” and “nothing burger” broadcast.
In response to Carlson’s lead question about the tax return, Trump called Maddow’s partner-in-crime David Cay Johnston “not much” of a journalist and added, “He (Johnston) has been following me for 25 years.”
Concerning the source and legality of the report, Trump said he has “no idea where they got it, but it’s illegal. They’re not supposed to have it and it’s not supposed to be leaked…they’ve done it before, and I think it’s a disgrace,” before admitting that “it’s certainly not an embarrassing tax return at all.”
