Lilian Tintori is the wife of Leopoldo Lopez, who is one of the most well known political prisoners. He is currently being held in Venezuela. President Trump met with her on Wednesday to show his support at a dinner with Marco Rubio.
The Gateway Pundit reflected on the inspiring speech Rubio gave to the Senate Floor Wednesday in López’s defense:
“A Venezuelan opposition leader who three years ago this week led peaceful demonstrations against the regime of Nicolas Maduro – and he was thrown in jail for it.” Of Tintori, he said she “is an incredibly brave woman who does not rest as she continues advocating for her husband’s release and the release of all political prisoners. And continues to fight for a free and democratic Venezuela.”
President Trump sent out a tweet saying “Venezuela should allow Leopoldo Lopez, a political prisoner & husband of @liliantintor (just met w/@marcorubio out of prison immediately”
To which Tintori expressed her gratitude in a tweet saying, “Thank you @realDonaldTrump and @MikePenceVP for standing with the Venezuelan people and our aspirations to restore democracy to our country.”
