A pregnant 19-year-old woman shot her boyfriend dead, in front of their other 3-year-old daughter, all for a Facebook live video that went terribly wrong.
Monalisa Perez, 19, of Halsted, allegedly shot Pedro Ruiz III, 22, in the chest with a .50-caliber bullet on Monday.
The idea of the video was to stop the bullet with a thick book.
The Daily Mail reports:
Prior to the shooting, Perez had tweeted: ‘Me and Pedro are probably going to shoot one of the most dangerous videos ever. HIS idea not MINE’.
The teen, who is pregnant with their second child, has been charged with reckless discharge of a gun.
She reportedly told police that she had fired the fatal shot while stood just a foot away from Ruiz.
Ruiz had allegedly been holding the book in front of his chest, expecting it to stop the massive bullet. Instead, it hit and killed him.
Ambulances were called after the 6:30pm shooting and EMTs attempted chest compressions outside the home, but they were unable to save Ruiz.
Their three-year-old daughter, Aaliyah, was reportedly in the room when the shooting occurred.
The couple had a YouTube channel where they often played pranks on each other. For example, one video shows Ruiz feeding his girlfriend donuts covered in baby powder.
“They were in love. It was just a prank gone wrong. It shouldn’t have happened like this. It shouldn’t have happened at all,” said the young man’s aunt to the West Central Tribune.
