A threat of violence from the “Anti-Fascist” organization Antifa has shut down a time-honored tradition in Portland, Oregon.
The Portland Rose Festival’s signature “Avenue of Roses” parade has been cancelled after receiving an email from the group that promised violence at the event.
Antifa would attack the peaceful citizens, the email stated, because a local chapter of Republicans were taking part along with dozens of other groups.
“You’ve seen how much power we have downtown (in Portland),” the message read. “The police can’t stop us.”
Even liberals in Portland are dismayed that the event is being cancelled. Jacob Bureros, an organizer from the peaceful left-wing Direct Action Alliance, called the parade “awesome” and said his group is “sad” that the violent Antifa managed to shut it down.
Portland police told parade officials that they would not send officers to protect citizens from the Antifa attack.
