Susan Malysa, a 32-year-old woman, has been arrested for child abuse and endangerment after her 11-year-old son was found, by the grandmother and police, tied to a metal chair, with bruises on his face and neck. The mother had left him there while she took her 6-year-old daughter swimming at the local pool.
The grandmother reports that the 11-year-old has behavioral problems, and had smeared feces on the walls and some toys the night before. She didn’t expect the mother to punish him like this.
However, the next day when the grandmother arrived, she found the grandson tied up and abused. She called police right away.
The Daily Mail reports:
An Ohio woman was arrested on Monday after allegedly duct taping her 11-year-old son to a metal chair and then leaving him alone at home to go swimming with her six-year-old daughter.
Police found 32-year-old Susan Malysa swimming at the Boardman YMCA and arrested her on the spot, charging her with child endangerment.
She appeared in court the next day and tried to explain herself to the judge, before he stopped her – saying the hearing was not the time. She then post $10,000 bail. Her kids are now in the care of relatives.
It was the boy’s grandmother who found him tied up to the metal chair in the home’s basement.
The unnamed grandmother told police that she grew worried for her grandson after she called her daughter and asked to take him to lunch. Malysa refused and then said she was going swimming, but that her son was not coming along.
The grandmother drove over to the family’s home just after 11:30am and found the boy tied up to a metal chair in the basement, his legs taped to the chair, his hands taped together and his mouth shut with another piece of tape.
The tape was wrapped so tightly that the grandmother didn’t cut him free, instead waiting for police to arrive so that they could do it safely.
When the duct tape was taken off, police discovered dark bruises on the boy’s face and neck and rushed him to Akron Children’s Hospital.
