After a press conference on Tuesday at the New York court house, Mayor Bill de Blasio said that the city has plans to resist U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agents. Illegal immigrant family in New York City have ‘deep fears and concerns‘ because of new protocols that allow ICE agents to more freedom to conduct raids.
In an attempt to calm down some of these fears and resist ICE officers, De Blasion said that his office is now instructing school employees are to not allow ICE agents on school grounds. Schools are also not allowed to share any information on the students unless required by law.
From Young Conservatives:
The city will also facilitate workshops for parents to get questions answered about their rights in general and how they can get help. They have planned over 100 Know Your Rights workshops in boroughs throughout the city which will inform families where they can seek legal assistance, and free immigration services if they are facing the threat of deportation. The policies coming out of Washington “violate our values,” De Blasio insisted. He’s also cool with shielding drunk drivers from ICE enforcement as well.
As a practical matter, the Mayor is posturing. Because ICE wouldn’t be going in the schools without warrants in any event and if they had them, the schools couldn’t stop them. So the Mayor is simply posturing to be anti-Trump and burnish up his progressive bona fides for his anticipated run for president in 2020. But he’s using the money of the people of the city of New York to do it.
