Most of us associate “experimental” surgery on living, breathing people and pets as something that happened to Jews and Gypsies in Nazi Germany, or that occurred in the Dark Ages.
But for the VA, unfortunately it is all-too-real in 2017.
New internal documents show that a notorious Department of Veterans Affairs doctor, who has been implicated in numerous fatal animal surgeries, killed yet another animal in 2016 after clumsily slicing into a dog’s chest.
Dr. Alex Tan of the Hunter Holmes McGuire VA medical center performed a fatal “thoracotomy” surgery on a beloved pet dog on March 17, 2016. Tan’s attempted procedure has been described as “experimental.” The dog died during the doctor’s attempt.
Reports have surfaced that show Tan engaged in at least 3 poorly performed surgeries on dogs from December 2015 to October 2016.
He was then banned from certain types of animal surgeries, but has remained with the VA, and disgustingly is still being allowed to treat pets.
