Multiple sources have confirmed that Susan Rice, former national security adviser under President Barack Obama, demanded that intelligence officials “unmask” the names of Trump transition officials and family members who were subject to Obama Administration electronic surveillance during the 2016 Presidential campaign.
The names of people associated with then-candidate Donald Trump were then sent to up to 16 employees at the National Security Council, Defense Department, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and then-CIA Director John Brennan among others, according to a Fox News report that broke this morning.
Rice’s illegal spying methods also extended to Trump family members.
When names of American citizens are incidentally collected, they are masked, meaning the names are redacted from reports unless a crime is believed to be taking place. The rules are in place to protect Americans from being spied upon by their government. According to the report, under Rice’s watch those protocols were simply brushed aside.
