No one knows if it was planned, or if a trip to the mall just “all of a sudden” turned deadly for a father and daughter. About 3:15 PM Sunday, a woman called police to the Capitola Mall.
She claimed her husband had her daughter with him somewhere at the mall, located in Santa Cruz County, California. He been making suicidal threats. She was petrified.
The mother had been shopping at the mall along with the father and daughter before the incident happened. Police Chief Terry McManus said they had been together for a period of time, reports ABC.
At some point, the father took his 8-year-old daughter, and walked outside with her. The mother reports that he’d been potentially suicidal. So, she was very concerned, and decided to call the police.
When the cops arrived at the California mall, both the father and his 8-year-old daughter were shot. They were inside a black Kia Soul, which was parked by Macy’s. Both were suffering from gunshot wounds.
Police believe the shooting was a murder-suicide, and have not released the identities of the father or the child.
Paramedics tried to perform CPR, but the child and father were pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities are investigating to determine what sparked the shooting.
