This mom knew what she was doing that night when a thug tried to break into her Tennessee home, which she shares with her young son.
Elsie Lee said she was sleeping in the home, when she heard a sound break the silence. She slowly got up, and went towards the noise to check out the scene.
“I thought I was just dreaming something, and then I heard a big bang again,” Lee said. “I got up and came running through the hallway and my gun was sitting on the dog cage, and the guy was standing in the kitchen. He had just busted my door open.”
“I put the gun in his face and asked him if there was something I could do for him, and he was gone just that quick,” she recalled.
After a question like that, the thief was running out the door before Lee could even get a good look at him.
Lee quickly reached for her guns, a shotgun and a .45-caliber handgun.
“I put the gun in his face and asked him if there was something I could do for him, and he was gone just that quick,” she recalled. “I chased him out the back door trying to look at the tag number on the car, something I could describe other than just him.”
The mother said that the only thing running through her mind was, “Protect my son.”
“I almost killed him,” she said. “One of them could have been dead. Had he not ran, he would have been dead.”
Less than an hour after the intruder left Lee’s home, Madison County deputies arrested Quentin Childress, 20, Jaylon Chiles, 18, Kendrick McMullin, 19, Amor Johnson, 21, and a juvenile male. Each of the suspects has been charged with aggravated burglary.
Madison County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Tom Mapes said, “It’s that time of the year where kids will be getting out of school, bored with nothing to do, so you will see a lot more activities, especially burglaries.”
Lee says that she is thankful for the police who worked so quickly to catch the suspects.
“I say they were ‘Johnny on the spot,'” Lee told WBBJ. “They were here within three minutes. I congratulate our sheriff’s department for what they did [Monday], and it couldn’t have been done any faster or better.”
