Elizabeth Thomas, a 15-year-old teen, is missing. And, her family is desperate to find her. Authorities say she was abducted by her former health teacher. But, some say she went on her own.
Either way, 50-year-old Tad Cummins is wanted for abducting the teen. The Culleoka Unit School health teacher and his former student have been missing since Mid-March.
Information about an inappropriate relationship between the teacher and student slowly leaked out. One student saw them kissing in the classroom, and informed school officials the next day.
NY Daily News reports that the two were spotted together on Walmart surveillance footage. They were hundreds miles away from home, at an Oklahoma Walmart.
March 15, two days after the teen was abducted by her teacher, the two were seen on video in an Oklahoma City Walmart. Authorities say this is the first confirmed sighting of either of them since they’ve been on the run.
Authorities desperate for concrete clues had already expanded the search nationwide, and it is unknown where Cummins and Thomas could be given that they seemingly traveled 700 miles shortly after the disappearance.
Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokesman Josh DeVine told the Daily News Friday that the agency has “no solid information about their current whereabouts” and have not ruled out anything.
The Oklahoma photos show that the teacher appears to have darkened his hair and beard, with Thomas’s normally blond hair now a shade of red.
TBI, which said that it did not know if the pair still look as they do in the Walmart pictures, previously released photos of Cummins, who they believe to be armed, buying hair dye in his home state.
He was fired around the time of the alleged abduction, which came after he and Thomas were seen kissing in a classroom in January.
Thomas changed her Instagram profile to say “wife” this month, though her sister Sarah has said that she also used to hide from Cummins when he would show up unannounced at her work.
