Christian residents of Sterling Heights, Michigan are furious about a settlement that is set to allow a mosque to be built in their town, and have taken the legal fight one step further.
The Sterling Heights planning commission once turned down a proposal to build a mosque on nearby 15 Mile Road, but aggressive lawsuits by the American Islamic Community Center and the Department of Justice forced the city into a consent agreement, which clears a path for the mosque to be built.
Residents have successfully campaigned for the American Freedom Law Center to sue the municipality, according to reports in 100% Fed Up and Click On Detroit. Robert Muise (in photo below) was quoted calling the DOJ’s former chief an “800-pound gorilla” and expressing optimism with her departure from office.
“I think what ended up happening was…Barbara McQuade, the 800-pound gorilla joined in on this fight and the city caved in because they didn’t want to deal with the government,” Muise said.
Muise also claims Sterling Heights Mayor Michael Taylor violated the open meetings act for throwing out citizens during heated town forums in recent weeks.
