A gang of three teenage girls has apparently killed a father of seven, over a cell phone. One 18-year-old, Courtney A. Sherman, of Tweed Road in Fox Lake, Illinois, and two unnamed (because of their age) 17-year-old were charged with reckless homicide and robbery.
The dad, Javier Bueno-Sanchez, had agreed to meet the girls after the wanted to purchase a cell phone he had placed for sale on the app ‘Offer Up’. Police say a group of 5 teenage girls pulled up in a car to meet him. As Sanchez was conducting the sale, he noticed that the envelope the girls gave him, which was supposed to have $450 in it, in exchange for the phone, only had a few dollars. When he protested was when the girls attacked.
The Daily Mail has more:
When he tried to get his phone back, the 17-year-old driver allegedly took off, with Bueno-Sanchez clinging to the car.
‘At that point, when he realized that and that girls realized that he was on to them, they sped away,’ Round Lake Beach Police Chief Michael Scott told WLS.
The car dragged him until he fell to the pavement, smacking his head. The suspects then fled the scene, said police.
The victim was conscious when help arrived and at first he was talking and it didn’t seem as if his injuries were serious, said Scott.
But within a few hours, things took a turn for the worse and he died three days later.
Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper ruled his death a homicide caused by head trauma.
Two other teens in the car, a 16 and 17-year-old, will not be charged.
Bueno-Sanchez had seven children, ranging in age from 27 to six.
Family describe him as a very active dad who was involved in all aspects of his children’s lives.
‘He was such a good person, he didn’t deserve any of this,’ daughter Lily Olmos told WLS.
