Los Angeles Mayor, Eric Garcetti, made an announcement that let people know the LAPD will only comply with ICE requests for detainment when a warrant for a crime is criminal and involves a serious offense.
Local authorities have repeatedly not detained individuals who were arrested and suspected of being illegal immigrants. Violating these ICE requests have caused a major controversy resulting in President Trump threatening to revoke funding from major cities providing sanctuary, with the argument that illegal immigrants create a substantially greater risk of crime.
In the most recent fiscal year, Los Angeles Country received $582 million in federal aid, so they should start thinking twice before providing sanctuary to these illegal immigrants if they want to keep their funding.

Furthermore, CBS quoted Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich in 2013 on how illegals affect Los Angeles’ fiscal bottom line.
Antonovich stated “When you add the $550 million for public safety and nearly $500 million for healthcare, the total cost for illegal immigrants to [LA] county taxpayers exceeds $1.6 billion dollars a year. These costs do not even include the hundreds of millions of dollars spent annually for education.”
Of course, it is difficult to think about illegal immigrants being released by sanctuary cities without being reminded of another California city, San Francisco, which as a sanctuary city released Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, an illegal immigrant from Mexico.
Weeks later, the illegal shot and murdered Kathryn Steinle.
Ms. Steinle, an American citizen, was reportedly discussing her upcoming marriage while walking with her father on San Francisco’s Pier 14.
