Former President Barrack Obama made his first public appearance since leaving the White House three months ago. Mr. Obama managed to avoid any direct criticism of President Trump, but it was clear he misses being the center of attention.
Obama could not help himself when he felt compelled to express concern that the current political environment is turning off Americans but failed to note that’s largely due to the actions of the Democrats in Congress being unwilling to accept the verdict of American voters last fall.
Since leaving office, Obama has been on a whirlwind vacation, mostly without his wife and children. He has attempted to follow the tradition that former presidents should not overtly criticize their successors out of respect for the office itself.
According to USA Today, Obama started off his remarks by asking the audience “What’s been going on while I’ve been gone?” He then launched into a lecture to the mostly young audience about how they should become involved in politics.
The one thing that I’m absolutely convinced of is that, yes we confront a whole range of challenges. All those issues are serious and daunting, but they are not insoluble. What is preventing us from tackling them and making more progress really has to do with our politics and our civil life.
— Barrack Obama
It is remarkable how quickly the former President has disappeared from the public view and for a person like Mr. Obama that must be a hard pill to swallow. Obama has become yesterday’s news, and no one really cares what he says or thinks anymore.
Obama is unlikely to be content with remembering that America voted for a new President and a new direction last November and will no doubt attempt to become relevant in American politics again. He may be in for a rude surprise when he discovers that no one really cares anymore about what he thinks.
