Virginia was supposed to show America that Democrats had fully embraced the Progressive wing of the Party.
The race between Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam and former Congressman Tom Perriello was billed as a contest between the Democratic Party establishment and the Progressive wing headed by Sen. Bernie Sanders.
If that was the case, then Bernie and the progressives lost big time.
With most of the votes counted, The Washington Post had Northam leading by a margin of 56% to 44%.
In 2017, Sanders has endorsed seven candidates in races across the country. So far, six out the seven have lost their races. In the one remaining race in Georgia, Jon Ossoff has a narrow lead in the polls but is seeing a marked decline in his support in recent days.
Sen. Bernie Sanders remains the most popular politician in Washington D.C., but seem unable to translate his popularity to others.
