A favorite liberal fable in America involves “fascist” Republicans declaring martial law and using “emergency” powers to enforce authoritarian control on the public.
But a favorite son of the left-wing movement is showing that even around the world, nobody does fascism as well as a liberal ruler.
French President Emmanuel Macron has moved to turn a 19-month post-terror attack “state of emergency” in France into a permanent measure allowing government overreach and tyranny that would make King George blush.
Macron’s bill would make warrantless searches and arrests a common law-enforcement practice.
The bill would also ban protest marches, shut down churches and allow electronic tagging of citizens for government surveillance.
“They are actually making (the emergency state) eternal. It’s an intellectual scam,” said Marie-Jane Ody, VP of a judges’ union in France, who also compared Macron’s rule to “a fascist group rising to power.”
