The St. Louis Cardinals baseball club has resolved to welcome Lance Berkman as their “Christian Day” speaker, despite outrage and protests from the LGBTQ community.
The gay-activism group St. Louis Pride has protested the Cardinals’ decision to host Berkman and have demanded that the Cardinals cancel his appearance at their annual Christian Day events.
In the yearly ceremony, a public figure takes to the microphone post-game to speak about how Christianity has affected their life.
Berkman took criticism from the LGBTQ community in 2015 and has been insulted as a homophobe.
But of course, as usual it doesn’t involve anything of much substance – the Cardinals, Berkman included, have worked with thousands of young adults in their community…gay and straight.
Instead, the controversy erupted over his opposition to a Houston city ordinance that would allow transgender people access to bathrooms other than the ones assigned to their biological gender.
