Fox News analyst Charles Krauthammer says that Senate Democrats have badly miscalculated in proposing a filibuster to prevent the successful nomination of Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court.
Krauthammer noted in an interview today that if merely 8 Democrats don’t agree to bring cloture to the filibuster, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell can abolish the tactic by changing the rules of the body.
“The reason this is important (is that) the debate now, the argument now, the tussle now is not about Gorsuch,” Krauthammer said. “Everyone knows he is going on the court. If the Democrats force the hand of McConnell on this boat… next time around, the Republicans would be tempted to go for a far more hard-edged conservative than Gorsuch is.”
“This is a self-inflicted wound” for Democrats, he concluded.
