Fox News Anchor Shepard Smith has not made a secret of being gay, but he has chosen not to talk much about it until recently.
The Washington Post reported that Smith recently opened up about his experiences of growing up gay in the conservative South and how it affected his career.
Mr. Smith grew up in the small town of Holly Springs, Miss and attended college at Ole Miss. Smith has never before discussed his personal sexuality.
I’ve never really stood in front of a crowd and talked to them about ‘the gay,’” he said. “But I’ve got nothing to hide.
I go to work; I manage a lot of people. I cover the news, I deal with the holy hell going on around me, and I don’t think about it,” he said. “I come home to the man I love, and I go home to family.
Fox News has recently received a lot of negative news – from lawsuits claiming that Fox is a hostile environment, to the departure of many of Shepard’s colleagues over the past year.
Through it all, many feel that Shepard Smith has remained a voice of calm and reason.
