On Monday, people claiming allegiance to ISIS released a video making direct threats against China. The video comes out of Western Iraq and is made by Chinese Muslim Uighur minority fighters (mostly from XinJiang). According to the Daily Caller:
“Oh, you Chinese who do not understand what people say. We are the soldiers of the Caliphate, and we will come to you to clarify to you with the tongues of our weapons, to shed blood like rivers and avenge the oppressed,” an ISIS militant declared before brutally executing an informant.
The man was executed in the presence of children. The video also reportedly showed children executing spies.
China has a troubled history with Muslims in Xinjiang, where many violent attacks have taken place over the last few years. But it seems that this might be the final straw as the Chinese government has launched…
…an “all-out offensive” on terrorism.
Ten thousand armed Chinese police marched through Urumqi, Xinjiang on Monday in a show of force. “We will bury the corpses of terrorists and terror gangs in the vast sea of the people’s war,” explained Xinjiang’s Communist Party secretary Chen Quanguo.
ISIS has been showing increasing confidence of late, and may believe that China will respond with the lack-luster moves of many other Western nations. But China does not like to be put under pressure and will likely make swift (and deadly) operations against terrorists and sympathizers.
