Donald Trump has rolled back an Obama administration policy that stopped States from keeping back Federal funds from Abortion Providers. This is a controversial move that has received as much criticism as it has praise. It does however show that President Trump is determined to keep his campaign promises.
Whichever side of the abortion debate you fall on, there is still a convincing argument to be made that a large amount of US taxpayers don’t want to be funding something that they consider murder. It should be a choice that every individual can make regarding their tax dollars (much the same as the pro-choice lobby suggest when they say it is a “personal choice”).
No doubt there will be attempts by activist groups to have the legislation put back in place, but with VP Mike Pence’s swing vote, it is unlikely that attempts will work.
As reported in the Daily Caller:
Donald Trump signed legislation on Thursday reversing an Obama-era rule that banned states from withholding federal funds from clinics that provide abortions.
Trump signed H.J. Res. 43 two weeks after the Senate approved the legislation 51-50 with Vice President Mike Pence casting the tie-breaking vote. States can now block funding that would go to facilities like Planned Parenthood.
“It’s an important step for the administration that shows they want states to be in charge of the decision making,” Verma told reporters.
