In what many are saying is a propaganda assault on children, teachers in N.C Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools system, tried to introduce politically motivated reading material to the class. They had planned on teaching the book “Jacob’s New Dress”, which in its blurb is described as “This heartwarming story speaks to the unique challenges faced by boys who don’t identify with traditional gender roles.”
Parent were angered that this was on the schedule and with help from a pro-family group, the North Carolina Values Coalition, put an end to it.
Teaching children about diversity as part of their daily life is fine and even commendable, but a book that is written with only the goal to promote an ideology and little more, should be keep away from the classrooms, whatever that ideology may be.
Amazon reviews describe the book:
“Purchase this one to encourage discussions of gender, identity, and self-confidence” – How about a book that is designed to engage children?
“will provide reassurance to children like Jacob and inspire thoughtful discussion. Grades K-3.”- Why are they creating an environment in which a K-3 child would require “reassurance”?
If a children’s book is to be taught, it should have value other than a political message, or are th school systems becoming no more than indoctrination camps?
