Oliver Mauricio Funes Machada, 18-year old, is being held without bond on the charge of first-degree murder. He decapitated his mother at their home just South of Highway 64, North Carolina. He greeted the police at the door on Tuesday with a knife in one hand and his mother’s head in the other. He is currently being transferred to Central Prison because it is ‘more appropriate for any special needs he may have.’ Federal officers issued an immigration detainer on him as he is in the country illegally. ICE officials said that they are focusing hard on removing such threats from our country. Local officials called the scene ‘horrific.’ Two young girls were found in the home unharmed and a fourth child was in school at the time of the incident. Investigators are asking themselves what could have led to this crime.
“Officers encountered the suspect holding a knife and, as reported, also holding his mother’s head in the other arm,” Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Chief of Staff Terry Wright said. “It’s tough for the deputies. It’s tough for the communities. We will be offering any of them assistance who just may need it because it was a horrific scene that first responders had to respond to.” Wright said Machada called 911 himself around 12:45 p.m. Monday after the murder. “It looked to be a large butcher knife, the weapon that was used,” said Sheriff Kent Winstead.
