Willie Cory Godbolt, 35, of Bogue Chitto, Mississippi went on a shooting rampage after a domestic argument took a turn for the worst. Godbolt is accused of killing 8 people at three different residences, including his mother-in-law and a Sheriff’s deputy.
Godbolt was arguing with his estranged wife when neighbors called the cops. Godbolt shot the responding officer William Durr, 36, and three other women who were bystanders. He then took off down the block, where two more bodies of teenage boys were found.
More than 7 hours after the first shooting, the bodies of a man and a woman in a nearby house were discovered as well.
The Daily Mail reports:
After Willie Cory Godbolt, 35, of Bogue Chitto, was arrested around 7am on Sunday, he told The Clarion-Ledger he got into an argument with his estranged wife over their children on Saturday night.
Neighbors called the police, and Godbolt allegedly killed responding deputy William Durr, 36, around 11:30pm along with three women at the home in the 2800 block of Lee Drive in Bogue Chitto. Godbolt’s wife fled the scene with her step-father.
Godbolt then made his way to the 1600 block of Coopertown Road, in Brockhaven, about 15 miles away, where the bodies of two juvenile boys were found, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations said.
A man and a woman were found dead at a third crime scene at the 300 block of East Lincoln Road before Godbolt was arrested Sunday morning, more than seven hours after the first shooting broke out.
Godbolt, who has been charged with one count of capital murder and seven counts of first degree murder, told the Clarion-Ledger he ‘ran out of bullets’ and planned to die by committing ‘suicide by cop’.
‘I ain’t fit to live, not after what I done,’ a handcuffed Willie Corey Godbolt, 35, told the local newspaper.
